Tim Mitchell was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He began playing guitar at the age of nine and by the age of eleven, he was spending all his free time practicing, jamming and immersing himself in all forms of music from Led Zeppelin to jazz great Pat Martino to the classical stylings of Segovia. Tim enrolled and attended the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy (IAA) when he was fourteen majoring in music composition.

After graduating from IAA ,Tim went on to further his education at University of Miami where he majored in Studio Music and Jazz . It was in Miami where his music career really started to take off. Pop group sensation Expose asked him to join them as their guitarist on their upcoming tour where he later went on to become their musicial director and participated on their later albums.

Following his success in Miami Tim moved to LA and soon found himself in the studio with childhood hero Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band, whom he had seen in huge arenas in Detroit as a kid. He wasn't in LA long before he was asked to join Gloria Estefan for her Into The Light World tour. The tour lasted 2 years and it was there that Tim formed a lasting relationship with music mogul Emilio Estefan.

Finally back in LA ,while recording new tracks for Bob Seger's legendary Greatest Hits Album, Tim began writing songs with Seger and keyboardist Craig Frost . Three of those songs made the cut on Seger's It's A Mystery album, including the first single Lock and Load which rose to #1 on Billboard. Upon the release of the album, he was asked to join the upcoming tour as lead guitarist. The band had an all-star line up including original Silver Bullet members as well as Kenny Aronoff on drums and Billy Payne on keys. With no time to return home after the tour, Tim was flown to Miami to start Gloria Estefan's Evolution tour.

It was after the Evolution tour that Tim began working with Emilio Estefan, writing and producing songs for artists like Gloria Estefan, Paulina Rubio, Thalia, Jon Secada, Ricky Martin, Mandy Moore etc. It was then that Emilio introduced Tim to colombian artist Shakira and the two connected immediately. Working as her guitarist and Musical Director, they promoted her album Donde Estan Los Ladrones. After that, Tim put together a band for Shakira's upcoming MTV Unplugged album. He produced the album and it went on to win the Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album and was nominated in multiple categories in Latin Grammy's including Album of The Year and Best Pop Album. The album is considered to have paved the way for Shakira's successful English crossover. Immediately after the success of Unplugged album, Shakira and Tim wrote songs for the multi-Platinum Laundry Service album, including the worldwide smash Whenever Wherever and Suerte, which became BMI's song of the year. Tim continued his work, both in the studio and live, with Shakira (Oral Fixation ; Oral Fixation 2 ; Sale al Sol ;Shakira ) As well as working on the studio albums, Tim produced the music for Shakira's DVDs (Live and Off The Record;Oral Fixation Tour; Live From Paris) and also produced the music for the last 3 World Cup Finals where Shakira performed.

In addition to working with these great artists, Tim was asked to be Musical Director for the George Lopez TV pilot - 'Lopez Tonight' and once the show was picked up, he was asked to climb aboard as MD for the show . Unfortunately , he was already committed to Shakira's tour and with preproduction already in progress ,he felt it best to stay the course with Shakira , but still maintains a good relationship with George.
